Specialized Technical Training Programs

The broad philosophy at AC/C TECH is to provide practical and focused training that will benefit students and the communities they serve.  That’s our motto.  We offer web-based training programs designed to take the guess work out of maintaining an apartment community and repairing equipment; however small, large, or unique.  Students have an option of pursuing [1] Courses only, [2] Employer Specific Training, [3] Technical Certificate Programs, and [4] Associate of Applied Science Degree in Residential & Apartment Technology.

[1] Courses Only
Students pursuing courses only will develop the knowledge, skills and competencies listed in the course syllabus.  They will also gain exposure to planned maintenance activities, energy savings tips, governmental regulations, tools and test equipment, safety information, technological advancements, and more.

The curriculum for each course involves:

There are many exciting features about our training: Students can pursue the lessons any time of the day (24/7) and from any location.  The lessons can be stopped and started at will, and repeated many times over.  Graduations rates will be high because the student will have self-paced control over the lessons.  It offers standardized training regardless of the equipment or employment location.  Plus, there are administrative tools for employers to monitor the progression of students (their employees).  And, it’s cost effective because instructional fees and classroom setups are minimized.

All training materials align with industry standards, governmental regulations, manuals produced by equipment manufacturers, current textbooks and lab manuals, technical publications, technological advancements, newspaper articles, YouTube videos, and OSHA standards.  In general, students must devote 41 hours of training to achieve the course objectives: 10 hours for class preparation, 10 hours for lectures, 10 hours for labs, 10 hours for externship, and 1-hour for the verification assignment.

The students overall performance will be determined by completing lessons, labs, quizzes, a final examination, OJT or externship evaluations.  As the minimum passing range, students are required to demonstrate a proficiency in 70% of the course activities.

[2] Employer Specific Training
Employer Specific Training is designed to help students gain the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to complete work assignment expected by the employer. AC/C TECH has developed a training program for the following job classifications:

Each program aligns with apartment industry standards, job descriptions, performance evaluations, and management expectations.  Also, each program is designed to achieve benchmark graduation and employment rates.  These programs are unique in that it allows students to pursue online training followed by actual work assignments.  Students will complete four hours of maintenance training lessons, then go to a job site and work four hours.  The work assignments will parallel lessons.  As examples, when students learn about electric furnace maintenance they will assist in repairing or cleaning HVAC equipment; when students learn about interior building maintenance they will assist in prepping a unit for leasing.  Simply stated, the infrastructure for these programs will certainly help students meet employer expectations and secure a fulltime job.

Although these programs are designed for apartment technicians, the training can also benefit inspectors, appraisers, leasing agents, property managers, community developers, private home owners, etc,… because they will learn how things work and better understand the components in a facility and the cost and time associated with maintaining that facility.

[3] Technical Certificate Programs
The Technical Certificate Programs are designed to help students develop advance technical skills and competencies in the following areas:

Similar to the Employer Specific Training programs, these programs align with apartment industry standards, job descriptions, performance evaluations, and management expectations.  Also, each program was designed to achieve benchmark graduation and employment rates.  Again, these programs are unique in that it allows students to pursue online training followed by actual work assignments.

[4] AAS Degree Program
AC/C TECH offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Residential & Apartment Technology. To earn a degree, students are required to [1] complete 24 courses which amounts to 984 hours of specialize technical training; [2] demonstrate a proficiency in 70% of the course activities; [3] score 70% or above on final examinations; and [4] earn a performance rating of 70% or above on externship or OJT assignments.  This program is the highest level of training AC/C TECH has to offer and the most difficult for students to achieve.

Again, it should be noted, all training materials align with industry standards, governmental regulations, manuals produced by equipment manufacturers, current textbooks and lab manuals, technical publications, technological advancements, newspaper articles, YouTube videos, and OSHA requirements.  Also, this program is unique in that it allows students to pursue online training followed by actual work assignments.

Like traditional institutions, AC/C TECH provides training that prepares students for entry-level employment positions, and provides training for those requiring advanced technical skills.
