Technical Certificate Programs
HVAC Maintenance Technology
The HVAC Maintenance program is designed to help students develop technical knowledge and skills related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of residential heating and air conditioning equipment. Students will learn details about HVAC equipment, with an emphasis on making repairs in a safe, efficient, and productive manner. Students will learn WHAT failed, WHY it failed, and HOW the failure can be prevented. Understanding these principles (WHAT, WHY and HOW) will increase worker productivity and reduce overall maintenance/capital expenditures. Students will also develop skills in recognizing and testing the components, interpreting the schematic wiring diagram and tracing the sequence of operation, cleaning the equipment and performing annual maintenance, and tweaking settings for optimum efficiency. In addition, students will learn terminology, energy saving tips, technological advancements, tools and test instruments used in the trade, plus more.
This program consists of five courses: [1] Electric Furnace Maintenance, [2] Gas Furnace Maintenance, [3] EPA Technician Certification, [4] Air Conditioning Maintenance, and [5] Heat Pump Maintenance. Courses are geared towards self-paced learning that will give students "maximum exposure" in maintaining heating and air conditioning equipment. When computed, the course lessons consists of 200 hours of specialized technical training: 110 hours of online training, followed by 40 hours of in-field training with an instructor, followed by another 50 hours of OJT (On-the-Job Training) through an employer.
Graduates will be awarded a Technical Certificate in HVAC Maintenance Technology, and, EPA Technician Certification as approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
